| Commander's notes |
Last report of the old year or first report of the new year? I shall let you all decide on this one...
Either way, welcome!
To start off, congratulations are in order for several people: The End of Year Bash competition has ended
and even though participation was far from what I had hoped (*cry*), at least we had some activities. Medals have been recommended!
As with the end of every year, The Ace of the TIE Corps competition has found a yearly winner, and a very
rare Iron Star with Platinum Wings will very soon find its way into my medals box as I have secured
first place for a third time! Admittedly, having a 2 week Christmas Holiday and no girlfriend/wife to take
time away from the PC helps a lot though... It was fun trying to get over 1,000 missions for December end even better when you manage to
grab a few High Scores along the way as well! Grats also to Elwood the Brave for grabbing second place,
it's been a while since someone who's not me flew that many missions in a single month!
As the month of December is now over, I will be submitting the monthly evaluation to the Command Staff, and expect to see a few medals
awarded sometime in the near future.
As you may also have noticed, the banner image at the top of this report has changed. Many thanks to COL BubbaX
for putting his gfx skills to good use. I've had the image for awhile now, but thought it nice to wait with it until the new year!
All Deltonians have received an e-mail earlier this week about some minor changes to the Weekly Trivia.
I'm hoping this will encourage you to keep playing until the last day, even if you know you're never going to win the week anymore.
Remember as always: you're not only playing for the weekly win!
I'm thinking ahead to next year (well, this year by the time you're all reading this). The past few months we've seen some competitions
on a squadron level and 'haven't always been happy with the participation. It's gonna take some thinking and input from y'all to change that.
We'll see what happens.
Also, the crazy flying I did the last month has shown me one thing: The Mission Compendium and especially the
TIE Fighter part of it has some total and utter crap in it (only word I can think of....) How some of this
garbage ever made it into the Compendium is beyond me. And note: I'm not talking about the story in the battles.
Those are bad as well sometimes, but I am strictly talking from a mission creation point of view. I have shared a
huge list of bad bad bad stuff with the TCCOM and some others, and I will be starting a massive TACcy campaign
the coming year(s) to start working on that. And that also means getting through all the bug reports still open. I'm still looking for a
cool name for this campaign, so if you have any ideas, I'm all ears.
Just a summary of this list for those interested:
having to disable a container
starships dancing around the arena because they have starfighter orders
starships that have fired all the gunners because they have no orders
5 modified Corvettes entering the hangar of a platform (which in game is roughly the same size...)
endless missions where you have to kill 100% of some random starfighter group unrelated to the mission goals,
which is fun when it escapes because your wingmen's AI doesn't understand finishing the kill and let's them go
And just for fun: the other week I actually (no joke) made dinner while one mission played itself out, and
ate said dinner while the next mission played itself out./ And that's even with time acceleration! Well, there's
plenty more on that list....
In the mean time, I noticed the TACcy queue also has a few new battles still queued, so I'm hoping to get those
out as well, seeing they advance the Karana Initiative storyline.
Well, enough reading material for you, so I'm not gonna add another paragraph here, I'll do that for the weekly joke :)
