Pete takes a step
Pete was talking on
his holopod to a woman when he heard a knock on his
office door.
“Alright, honey, I
will see you soon. I had better go, though. Duty calls.†Pete
terminated the transmission. “Come in,†he called through the door, and
opened it pressing a button on his desk. “Ah, Fleet Admiral Plif, how are you doing?â€
“I’m good, though, I
came to ask you that, question, sir…â€
“I’m doing quite well,
better than I deserve actually.â€
“That’s good, Pete,
but it’s been a month since your last report. Are you sure everything
is ok?â€
“Oh, yes,
definitely. However, I have been meaning to talk to you about that… Are
you ready?
“Yes, go ahead.â€
“No, I mean are you
ready for this job… my desk…to be TIE Corps Commander…â€
“Well… I think so, if
I need to be…â€
“Plif,
that was a rhetorical question, of course you are ready! You’ve been ready
shortly after I announced you as the SOO. You have been excellent as an SOO, and while I agonized over the decision at the
time, you’ve made me realize that was the best decision of my career.
Now it’s time for a far easier, but equally good decision: to step down and
name you as my successor and TIE Corps Commander.â€
“Well, Sir, I’m
honored. Thank you.â€
“Thank you, for all
your loyalty and excellent service. The Corps will be in good
hands. When do you want to take over? I can stay on a bit, but I
have a vacation I’d like to take at some point.â€
“That’s up to you,
Sir.â€
“Alright then, We’ll make it a little over a week from now. Just enough
time to announce it, and for you to move in to the
office across the hall. It’s been a pleasure serving with you Fleet
Admiral Plif.†Pete extended his hand, and Plif shook it.
“Where will you go
now, sir? You’re not retiring are you?â€
“No, after vacation,
it’s back to Kappa for me. You’ll be me KMDR again, just like old
times. Well, sort of…â€
“I’m glad your
sticking around, sir. It’s been an honor, and good luck.â€
