Pete Dies…A Few Times
FA Pete
Mitchell finished donning his flight suit in his quarters and grabbed his
helmet. Â He stood and pondered the
upcoming mission. He was more nervous
than usual. Â HE shrugged it off, though
then motioned for his door to open with his free hand and left his quarters. He turned right down the hall while the
door closed.Â
At that
moment, FA Plif came out of his office and they strode side by side towards
the turbolifts.Â
“Thanks again for the promotion Pete!â€
“Don’t
thank me. It’s the least I could do
for the excellent SOO you’ve been.â€
“You look a
bit nervous. Having second thoughts?â€
“No, I’m
ok. You’ve got my back though, right?â€
“Always. And so does the Challenge, the Warrior, the
Hammer, and the Harpax.â€
“Good. I still think we’ll be fine, but better to
be safe.â€
“Good luck
out there. I hope to be by your side
next time.â€
“Deal. Well, I’m going down.â€
“Haha, I sure hope not!Â
I’m going up. See you when you
get back.â€
Pete
entered the lift and it shot down towards the hangar deck quickly. He was appreciative it was so fast and he
didn’t have too much time to worry. He
left the lift and made his way to the hangar, where he met several pilots
including COL Horus Blackheart, VA Hav Antiel, MAJ Rando, and several others.
“Well
gentlemen. This could be the most fun
we’ve had in a long time, or the most dangerous mission we’ve ever been
on. Stay sharp out there, and don’t
get killed!â€
With that,
Pete about faced and headed towards his TIE Guardian.Â
As the TIE
Corps pilots exited hyperspace they saw an old platform out in this remote,
otherwise vacant sector between EH and RS territories.Â
“I’ve got
12 X-wings on the scanner, headed toward the platform.â€Â MAJ Rando called out.
“Our
opponents have beaten us here.†Responded Pete. “Go ahead and land in Hangar 2.â€
Exiting their
TIE’s, the TC team saw a squadron of dusty TIE interceptors, a squad of old X-wings,
and a Squadron of Preybird fighters.
Just then,
the Rebels entered the hangar on foot.Â
“Welcome to our Neutral Ground gentlemen!†AD Carl said.
“Preybirds?Â
Seriously?â€Â Asked Pete as he
nodded toward the squadron.
“It’s something
to make it more interesting…â€
“Are you ready for some serious competition?â€
“Bring it
on! We’ve brought our Ace, MAJ Rando!â€
Challenged Hav.
“Good.â€
Carl responded. “What shall we fly
first?â€
Horus
chimed in “Definitely Interceptors.Â
None of those slow rebel death boxes.â€Â
“Alright.
Everyone grab a beer and pick a TIE.Â
Rules are, if you die, you drink!â€
“OK, now I’m
listening! Let’s fly!†yelled Pete as
he ran off to the interceptors.
Later, all
the pilots, rebel and imperial hung out in the platform’s mess hall, as it
didn’t have a proper bar.Â
Pete
motioned his hands like TIE’s “He went like this, I went like that, and I
said ‘where’d he go?!!’ Hav then says ‘Where’d
who go?!!’ and we both died, right there!Â
I got my share of you rebels, though.â€
“Yeah you
guys shot us up pretty well. Damn that
Rando!â€
“Yeah, I
say that every time we spar.†Agreed Pete.Â
“Well this was fun. We should do
this again, and thanks for not ambushing us!â€
“Alright
Imps, we’ll see you back here in a week!â€
“Deal!â€
