Reviews for TIE-TC 171

| | This battle is not really bad all in all, but hardly deserves the high praises that have been given to it. It has very good briefings (only with occasionally bad grammar) and the story is outlined well, too. It's pretty standard though, another imperial defector (as an excuse to throw MB's and TD's at the player) and another rebel invasion fleet. Things become ridiculous at mission five, though, with the rebel fleet stopping for hyperdrive cooldown (mysterioulsy losing their shields, too) and the Imps knowing exactly where they are and lay a trap consisting of cloaked, self-replicating mines. Riiiight! As has been mentioned before, all missions are 2D only, that means all craft and waypoints lie in a plane. This flatness is very obvious in most of the missions and really looks bad. Also, the battle is very easy. In some missions (especially the last one), the player might wonder why he is in it at all. The enemies are so outnumbered by imperials that you don't really make a difference and could as well just sit aside and watch the show. There are also technical flaws that greatly reduce the fun. Mission 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 have some large amounts of cap ships flying in close formation, this leads to excessive flicker in TIE-CD, which makes these missions very annoying and difficult to play on that platform. As I hate missions which are designed for TIE95 only and not even say so, this clearly reduces my ranking. In mission three, there's an uncompletable bonus goal (boarding of non-existant craft). This looks bad in the debriefing and is annoying. In mission five, the craft limit of 32 is exceeded when played on hard. Although it doesn't affect the mission goals, it's a beginner's mistake that shouldn't happen. Crappy bugs like these are unacceptable in a battle with such a high number and makes it sub-average. Hence, I can only give it a 2.

| | Good battle fo rthe most part, except for the last one, which featured wave after wave of ships, making it one of the longer missions I've flown for a while.

|
| | Very,very,very,very...very impressive battle, but I must samy, that spending over half an hour completing the last mission was a bit boring thing...

| | I was impressed by the battle, to say the least. All of the missions are very cool and even evoke a real battle atmosphere, but... the last mission felt undone. I'm not really sure why the stealth thing was really needed in hindsight (aside from furthering the story a slight bit). But, who am I to critique? The story and the briefings (excellent animation I think) were both great. Overall, a great battle - definitely worthy of eveyone's time.

| | This battle could have scored an entire point higher if it weren’t for that last mission. Basically it falls into that modern rut where is seems that every game has its obligatory stealth mission. It really doesn’t work here and I would recommend the battle only if you want to put up with an hour of boredom at the end of the battle. It’s an interesting mission other wise. The other, and far less minor things, which hurt its score, are the bugs in mission 2 and the repetitive nature of the repeat wings of fighters. I give it a 3.15 (rounded down to a 3 for the purposes of the EH review scale)(Note: My full review is much more detailed. If you'd like it I'd be happy to e-mail it to you, but here without the line breaks it looks sloppy :) )

| | *Clap Clap Clap* Superb battle! Astnishingly good briefings. Liekd th Stealth and the FRG effect. One minor note...on mission 2, the fighters didn't do a great job of doing anything.

| | If it wasn't for the last couple of missions this battle would've gotten a 4, but the capship positions and the stealth and such in the final fights boosted it up to a 5. If played normally (not worrying about high scores) the last two battles feel very realistic. It actually seems like a large battle. The timing and set up of multiple waves is so good that the player doesn't wait around for the next wave to arrive. This gives the missions a more fluid flow. The briefing maps were cool, though they moved a bit to quickly. The plot was progressively more interesting as the battle moved on. The Q&A's were average. The FRG getting pulled out of hyperspace was a good effect too.

| | I had to fly this again just to remember what it was like! This was made for the second ECR.. and walked away with top honours! (Earning me a promotion to CPT and a BS in the process) By my standards, it's looking a little dated now. It was made in 2D and the briefings don't look quite right. It took me a week to make this, nowadays it would probably take me less than that. There is an insane amount of enemies to fight and during my flight testing it was reported graphical errors if using less than Tie95. I recommend you read the briefing data to the full as it explains a lot of the plot in it. When you get to mission six, pay attention! The mission messages and the briefing will tell you all you need to know. I really enjoyed making this..even if it does look a little dated.

|
| | Excellent briefings. Nice touch adding the threat assessment. I still HATE fighting T/A and T/Ds, but the variety of overall missions and duties more than made up for ages of flying against top fighters types. Great Work Drake!!!
